Whilst the NME-orientated sodden summer festivities offered up by Britain's biggest and best festivals promise many bizarre and bewildering happenings, Barcelona's Primavera Sound promises an entirely opposing proposition. Stereotypically speaking, there'll be a fair bit of sunshine. Yet scenes of seething and sweating, almost melting throngs long-since established as a fail-safe feature of Benicassim are filtered thoroughly through a minimised British presence and more importantly, a seriously well-reasoned May setting. Sponsored by Spain's most successful premium, San Miguel, and featuring a frightfully astounding line up imminently expanded with the addition of the sun stroke sounds of Brian Wilson songwriter, Van Dyke Parks, Primavera Sound offers a surefire summer solstice of sound. This year's edition will be headlined by prime lo-fi progressives Pavement and Pixies, as well as the distinguishable, yet slightly disturbing disco of Neil Tennant's Pet Shop Boys, whilst the remainder of the cartel reads like a scruffy, fuzz-coated fry up of an ATP obsessive breakfast. Deranged, delusional dystopia that soothes and stirs in equal measure comes in the fractious form of Bradford Cox' Atlas Sound, Fuck Buttons throw their traumatised toys over to Spanish shores and Les Savy Fav return to enthrall with their barking beaten and bent booze rock. Tickets are a snip at £131 for the weekend and with crazed doom disco devils Chrome Hoof shunning silver shards in your direction, you'd be best to oblige.
