Were you to distill neo-60s soul, springtime and Summer Camp into a xylophonic utopia you'd end up with Cults. Nobody really knows a whole load about them, beyond harbouring a distinct sense of obligation to sign away whatever it is they ask of us when they come a-knocking in the imminent future like a pair of lo-fi Jehovah's witnesses. Go Outside is the sound of claustrophobic imprisonment by daily nine-to-five grinds and sweaty classrooms, seems to be the work of yet another boy/girl duo. Were we to plot their ubiquity over 2010 thus far, a graph chart would look something along the lines of the general annoyance political debates are stirring in this pre-election angst. I just experienced a spot of déjà vu writing that last sentence, a sign of shuffling along down the right track like a suburban train service. Most Wanted, the second track from their rather divine EP cobbles together early Gorillaz keys, Hammond organs, muffled Australian voice-overs highlighting our over-indulgent sins and ethereal lullaby vocals. Downloading Cults' 7" from their Bandcamp page would have to be a similarly well-informed choice. And that's about all for now...
