How Deep Is The Ocean? Blood Orange.

Once Lightspeed Champion, then Devonté Hynes, sometimes Blood Orange, now Lightspeed Champion once more; nominal complications stripped, Hynes is back with a freshly squeezed EP on Domino, oozing with luscious psychedelia, reedy orchestral nuance, and a cover of the Beach Boys' Til I Die; the artistic offshoot of holing up in New York with a head buried in comic books, ears inundated with early Flaming Lips records by the sounds of things... Shuffling subtly through three understated minutes of subdued majesty that burrows deep into your brain, nagging you to hammer the play button just another fifteen times more, the Bye Bye EP is an overtly glorific four-track that recalls Hynes at his most prolifically prestigious, the string-led Underwater There Is Nothing reminiscent of former touring buddy Patrick Wolf before bondage obsession and chained and padlocked vulgarity inverted the flippant folktronic troubadour's every respiration.
