Bloc Weekend 2011 Ones To Watch: King Midas Sound.

As the grim monotony of February draws to a weary close, March and its irrefutable highlight, the Butlins-based Bloc Weekend loom. Taking place over the weekend of 11th-13th March, we've previously featured the likes of Black Devil Disco Club, Siriusmo, SBTRKT and Boxcutter as unmissable acts. Today, add to that list King Midas Sound. If the line up is turntable-heavy, slanted in favour of disc jockeys etc. then bassmonger Kevin Martin (highly regarded under his The Bug moniker), alongside the unnerving lyrical whit of Roger Robinson and vocalist Hitomi of murky dub outfit Dobbeki Q equilibrates the balance slightly, prepping a rather more live experience. Grimy hyperdub described by the troupe as ‘cavernous dub, smack hop, dancehall shoegazing, no wave blues and slo-fi soul’, King Midas Sound reprocess the trippiest, most narcotic moments of Tricky whilst augmenting the eerie on U.

Meltdown meanwhile, lifted from the seminal Waiting For You LP is a beguiling genre mash touching upon minimal electronica and classic R'n'B, ground, sliced, diced and reconstituted in glorious synth swoon.
