Bloc Weekend 2011 Ones To Watch: SBTRKT.

As this year's Bloc Weekend draws forever closer and the anticipation builds, we've been busying ourselves by dissecting perhaps the greatest and most eclectic line up Butlins can cope with over a seemingly inconspicuous March weekend. Kicking off on 11th March and concluding in a presumably delightfully disorderly fashion on the 13th, we've been divulging our tips for the top of the house hierarchy of all things electronic, previously featuring Francophonic disco overlord Bernard Fèvre and superlative Berliner Siriusmo. This week is the turn of illusive producer SBTRKT, or former nu-jazz knob twiddler Aaron Jerome. Unless you've been residing in a subterraneous bomb shelter dripping in paranoid perspiration over the past twelve months, you're probably already acquainted with his Step In Shadows EP, released through the perpetually impeccable Young Turks label. If you've not happened upon it, Soundcloud, as per, can help rectify such situation, the title track streaming here. Then there's the plethora of predictably exemplary remixes Jerome has churned out of late for anyone and everyone from Tinie Tempah to Modeselektor, Little Dragon to These New Puritans. Yet it's his original bass-laden material that merits most acclamation, to which new cut, Living Like I Do attests.

Seeing the light of day in early April, Living Like I Do sees Jerome unite hooky vocals with underlying garage clicks and subtly urbane orchestration, and is perhaps his most cohesive piece to date, equal parts Joy Orbison and James Blake. Masked in mystique and petrifying disguise, SBTRKT is sure to provide a highlight of this particular edition of Bloc Weekend. As if any further persuasion were necessary, peruse the phenomenal vid to the Sampha-featuring Look At Stars below.

For more on SBTRKT, his frequently updated Soundcloud can be found here. Meanwhile for more info on this year's sold-out Bloc Weekend, wander off to the official site.
