The death grunts and hellish cries of metal are indeed far cries from despondent daydream electronica, although that's the tune to which Oslo's Torgny K. Amdam (or simply Torgny for artistic purposes) now sings having previously fronted Amulet. Incidentally it's fellow Norwegian Maria Due that provides vocals on the eerie Dying Hipster, a track that sucks the listener ears-first down a dimly lit rabbit hole lined with pristine glacial synths and bass frequencies set to undulate menacingly, if somewhat playfully. Due's vocals are emotionless, unperturbed, and bafflingly so given that musically, Dying Hipster sounds like the gallivant of a band of ever-approaching horsemen ushering in a technological apocalypse. Befitting for such an ominous throb, Torgny's forthcoming Oslo, 31. august EP sees the tenebrous light of day on Halloween, and is to soundtrack Joachim Trier's imminent film of the same name.
