While Wapusk may be one of Canada's umpteen National Parks, it's also the A-side to a 7" release from Ontario's
Kathleen Edwards, and a sumptuous cockle-warming affair it is too. Lifted from her forthcoming fourth LP Voyageur, Edwards' husked vocals sound as if they're drifting out from a frosted cabin, creeping through the verdant foliage of a damp forest like condensed breath in search of warmth. Fitting then that Edwards produced the track alongside Justin Vernon, who lends hushed harmonies to its latter half. As sparse as a motionless midnight at the foot of a moonless canyon, Wapusk is a track as apt as any to soundtrack an inconsequential Thursday afternoon.
