On the Horizon: Tashaki Miyaki's Star Rising.

Occasionally you stumble upon something, musical or otherwise, that you feel an instantaneous affiliation with, as if it were entangled in your DNA, coursing into your numb being via the umbilical cord from the very first moment you even vaguely resembled what we've come to recognise as a human being. One such something is the debut EP from California's Tashaki Miyaki, the duo comprised of lead vocalist/drummer Tashaki and guitarist Miyaki.

While they may be draped in ambiguity, the four tracks contained within this release on The Sounds of Sweet Nothing sound almost disconcertingly familiar, thus ensuring that it'll slot almost unnoticeably into the unassuming blogster's fresh Apple produce and paraphernalia. Familiar to the point of the familial, Happiness sounds like the distilled essences of Bethany Cosentino, Alaina Moore, Patrick Riley, Tracyanne Campbell, and Tom Fekete bottled and 'bolted'. Sure, the duo's scuzzy fuzzballs similarly recall The Popguns (above all on the especially wistful Keep Me In Mind) and The Jesus And Mary Chain (ubiquitously, although Somethin' Is Better Than Nothin' sounds exceptionally evocative of Just Like Honey), yet straddling past and present is a popular hangout contemporarily.

And if certain someones should accidentally fall from said perch into the great abyss of oblivion, it's highly improbable that it'd be Tashaki Miyaki...
