On the Horizon: Be Still My Beating Haert, HAERTS.

It's disconcerting almost, when an act or other emerges that's so fully-formed and fundamentally ready that you can't help but feel they must be comprised of goddamn execs, or the rekindled ashes of recycled Brooklyn bands, or something comparably contrived. CHVRCHES recently seemed to be that sorta band to so many – worshipped within hours of materialising. I didn't quite get it. If you're after faintly insecure electropop then Purity Ring surely had their little ribs wrapped around your heart a while back. But this from equally CAPS LOCK-enamoured New Yoikers HAERTS is one to get the old ticker really tocking. Comprising those colossal synths of U2's only faintly acceptable track (that'll be New Year's Day) or indeed those shed across the entirety of Tears For Fears' discog, and somehow triumphant swathes of pawn store guitar, and the sort of clenched-fist '80s power balladry from which Bonnie Tyler quite inexplicably forged something resembling a career Wings is a real soarer. Expect to trace this one at some rather lofty height some time in the quite immediate future. For now though, go – float away into the afterglow...
