On the Horizon: Oupa.

You may remember Daniel Blumberg and his curly fuzz of hair from his involvement in the now-defunct Cajun Dance Party. Or alternatively, of late he's become quite ubiquitous as frontman to quite possibly Britain's most exciting band, Yuck. With a phenomenal debut LP under that belt notch and a raucously visceral live show to boot, Blumberg's meandered off into sparse piano balladry under the guise of Oupa, taking to the States for SXSW in a week or two. Forget, the haunting initial insight into solitary songwriting is gloriously despondent, eerily ethereal as wonky detuned ebony and ivory lulls away beneath layered vox that obfuscate and ameliorate one another atop droning reverb. UK shows loom too, Blumberg playing Blue Flowers on April 3rd and in support of Porcelain Raft at St. Pancras Old Church March 25th.
