Only in Variegated Dreams, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti.

Thrilling one, this as it's the first original material to be lifted from the long-awaited, forthcoming Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti full-length Mature Themes. It follows hot on the heels of the unveiling of the album's show-stopping denouement Baby, a cover of the now rinascimentale Donnie and Joe Emerson although this one's considerably more, well, dreamy. It's been patent since House Arrest that Ariel Rosenberg's oneiric visions are sure to be eventful; colourful; crazed places although Only In My Dreams – afforded a rather more prominent positioning within finalised album tracklisting – is a relatively straightforward, if totally hallucinatory dunk in polychromatic puddles of psych retrospection. An endearingly flimsy guitar refrain which recalls The La's slides with radiant shimmer beneath vocals wondrously muddied by layers of baritone; falsetto; harmony. This one could again have quite conceivably been lifted off Dreamin' Wild, but thankfully we may now await an entire thirteen tracks of this good stuff when the record drops August 20th via 4AD.
