On the Horizon: Smooth as Moules, Montevideo.

I've never been altogether sold on the concept of the remix, just as I've never been entirely convinced by the Belgium capital. Though I've always regarded (and oft thereby disregarded) the remix as a somewhat vainglorious endeavour bereft of both inspiration and intention. I would thereby intimate that the predetermined conditions upon which it carries any artistic value are thus: that it be an in some way radical recomposition, or discernible repositioning of an original version, and that it offer an audience already infatuated with a certain artist the opportunity of an education into the modus operandi of another. This Tom Furse rework of Castles by Bruxelles' Montevideo ticks the first box although reverses the flick of the second. For The Horrors' analog wunderkind and psych-head is undeniably more renowned than the Belgian popstrels although on such melodramatic evidence, that may not be the case for a whole load longer. Furse really triumphs with this one primarily in almost doubling the running time of its all too succinct point of origin, as he masterfully plucks out its finest parts to construct something of a Tellier-esque epic sprawled out across six. Smoother than moules, I believe we've the Flemish response to Phoenix here rising from the remix...
