While the quirky typography on the cover to Kwes' latest work Get Up may be typical blog fodder, the track itself is anything but. It follows the reposting of several sketches that recently reappeared on his Soundcloud, and betters the lot: a cross between late '90s/ early '00s naughty lost R'n'B number and funked up TVOTR, its lyrics of "creepy crawlies creeping", dry mouths and wet faces are sublimely ordinary yet when spun with such ingenuity, a tale of waking up on an unknown lawn with a brain littered with lingering neurotoxins and guilt-edged thoughts of empty cans unravels. In the harsh light of day, it's a pretty empowering call for the hungover to abandon all sense of melodramatic theatrics, Kwes acrimoniously urging: "Get, get up / Stop feeling sorry for yourself."
