On the Horizon: Oh Rats! Guantanamo Baywatch.

Not content with hogging one of the bestest band names since The Mermen, Portland's Guantanamo Baywatch also employ sodden spring reverb to majestic effect on the largely instrumental Oh Rats! Snatched off a 7" released back in March, it recalls the bobble-headed hot rod rawk of The Trashmen whilst also proving redolent of the effervescent La Femme – to contemporise our reference points somewhat.

Its screechy flipside, A Boy to Love, is a little more Scott Walker-styled and would indubitably be vertiginously quiffed and bloody of lip were it personified in fleshy format. This time vocally reminiscent of Christopher Owens were the Girls once-mainman ever to have articulated his inner afflictions to a fully dishevelled and totally ramshackle extent. Substantially more surfy than suppressive, here's hoping you've not even a marginal urge to evade Guantanamo Baywatch...
